PSI FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is a Pete’s Tuning Box?
Pete’s Tuning Box is a RISC Micro processor controlled digital system that increases the power and torque of turbo diesel engines by upto 30%. The improved power and torque relates directly to the gain in performance, smoothness, pulling power and much better overall efficiency of the engine. It is a simple box that plugs into the engine with OE connectors and requires only 10 to 15 minutes to fix or remove.

2) Will the top speed of my car change?
The main aim of the box is to increase power and torque through out the rpm range. The top speed does not change but the time to reach the top speed is reduced.

3) Can I install the Pete’s Tuning Box myself without any technical knowledge?
Yes, it is a very straight forward connection and requires only 10 to 15 minutes. Detailed instructions are included in the box and for any specific queries / doubts you can call our technical helpline (O) 98950 – 88444.

4) Does the Pete’s Tuning Box damage my engine?
No, the digital operation of the Pete’s Power Box ensures an increase in performance while keeping the changes within the tolerances to avoid any abnormal engine wear.

5) What does “ISO 9001: 2000 certified” mean?
This official recognition indicates that the manufacturing company has implemented and uses working and inspection methods that enables it to Guarantee and demonstrate the quality of its organization thereby also guaranteeing the high quality of its products.

6) What does TUV mean?
TUV Approval means:
The product complies with legal exhaust emission standard and is a product that is build to high standards.

TUV testing guarantees:
a) The use of quality materials in the manufacture of the product.
b) That emission standard is similar in nature to that of the original manufacturer.
c) No danger of the product in fitting or in use.
d) Power and Economy stated figures are accurate and not misleading.

7) Why use the Pete’s Tuning Box instead of Chip Tuning?
a) No intervention with the original ECU
b) Pete’s Tuning Box is easy to install and remove and can also be fitted by a DIY enthusiast.
c) Can be transferred from one car to another of the same model
d) OE diagnostic equipment cannot detect the Pete’s Tuning Box.
e) No need to ruin the original connectors since the Pete’s Tuning Box connects directly to the OE connectors without any Cutting, Soldering or taping.

8) Will fuel consumption be affected?
The optimization changes the characteristics of the engines torque and becomes substantially more elastic. This means that there is less gear changes required in town traffic. Which in turn reduces the fuel consumption up to approximate 10% if the way of driving remains unchanged?

9) Can the Pete’s Tuning Box be used for Petrol Engines?
No because the principle of combustion of Petrol engines does not allow a big difference in the power and torque of the same. The maximum power increase will be only 5 to 8% and hence not viable for both the manufacturer and the consumer.

10) Does the Pete’s Tuning Box have a Warranty?
Yes, the Pete’s Tuning Box comes with a Two Year replacement Warranty for any manufacturing defect.

11) Why is the higher power not proposed by the original Car manufacturers?
Points to note in regard to this; a) Some cars do have this option like for e.g. The Alfa Romeo is doing a special edition 147 with a Tuning Box.
b)Some Countries have tax and insurance proportionate to the original power of the engine, so a more powerful car pays more tax and insurance.
c) Power of the engine, so a more powerful car pays more tax and insurance.
d) Some manufacturers in certain Countries propose an increase as optional.
e) The ECU’s for a particular Car are usually manufactured in one of the plants for the whole world. Certain countries cannot accommodate excess power due to the low quality of fuel so the car is manufactured with a lower power output for the whole world to reduce overhead costs of making different ECU’s for different countries.

12) Can the Tuning Box be switched off & on?
Yes, the Tuning box can be switched ‘ON’ & “OFF” from the driving cabin by fixing an additional switch to the given cable output, even while driving.

13) Do the tyres or brakes require any modification?
No, the performance enhancement is tuned by TUV in such a way that no further modifications are required. This also means there are no hidden subsequent costs

14) Is a Sport air filter like the Green Cotton filters advantageous?
A Green filter improves the ventilation of the motor and can give a slight improvement in overall smoothness of the Engine & also improves exhaust emission hence highly recommended.

15) Will the Vehicle need to be serviced more often?
No, the service intervals remain the same as recommended by the Company.

16) What is a loop design?
In the unlikely event of the module failing, the performance will return to that of the original vehicle, i.e., the car can be driven as usual. And the module will be replaced by the dealer after inspection.

17) Will my car over smoke?
Of course not, this is not an analogue box like others .Because of the digital tuning and TUV approval the Pete’s Box emissions are normal.

18) Will the Tuning box show in the diagnostic equipment at the garage?
No, the Tuning box will not be detected during an original manufacturer’s diagnostics.

19) Can the Pete’s Power Box be fixed on the Indian turbo diesel cars like the Safari, Indigo, and Scorpio etc.?
Yes to the Scorpio and New INDICA VISTA because they have the newer versions of ECU’s but cannot be fixed on the old Indica’s and Safari’s.

20) Do you have a box for the new Toyota Innova?
YES

21) What is the difference between an Analogue and Digital Box and how does it help the Consumer?

Analogue:
1) The analogue units are manually adjustable primitively designed units controlled by 2 or 3 potentiometers. They manipulate the signal by multiplying the analogue signal by a certain analogue value.
2) These devices have no vehicle specific maps.
3)The potentiometers are used to adjust the map in the lower and for upper speed ranges only thereby running the car rich or lean in some rpms which either over smokes and is also bad for the engine.
4) Since they are manually adjustable, you have to tune them for each specific car which is time consuming.
5) Almost always requires extensive readjustment.

Digital:
1) Tuning done by a RISC microprocessor with an extremely high degree of accuracy which is tailored exactly to meet the engines requirements at all RPM ranges by intercepting the fueling signals being sent from the ECU to the fuel pump and digitizing the signal (i.e. Converting it to a number). It then uses this converted value to ‘look up’ the new output signal value from the preprogrammed fuel map inside the Power Box, which is based on the half and full throttle fuel map from the original ECU. The optimized value is then converted back to an analogue signal and fed in real time to the pump.
2) Easy to install and requires no adjustment.
3) Vehicle specific maps.
4) Works in conjunction with the original ECU, with optimum calculated increase of the diesel fuel injected quantity in the full RPM range of the vehicle.
5) Optimum utilization of the engines reserve capacity from the manufacturer (15 to 30% power and torque increase) with minimum smoke emission and with no excess engine stress.
